In this painting, I use conventional and unconventional ways of colors at the same time. I have a particular fondness for the color white and in this painting, I use it to represent hegemony, violence, and defying gravity. I also love the color pink, which I use to portray feminine anger and calmness. Similarly, I use the color blue to represent masculine pressure on women. Through these colors, I have encapsulated my personal history as a woman who has lived in both South Korea and the US. These colors are a testament to my tumultuous youth. Now, as a middle-aged woman, I believe that scars represent not only woundedness and pain but also the ability to overcome and heal. Scars, borne of hurt, can become beautiful armors.
